Building on the work of the Small Area Rate Variation (SARV) study completed in Nova Scotia by Kephart et al., this research aims to identify the main drivers of high cost healthcare use. More specifically, we target to determine whether healthcare costs are disproportionately higher for individuals poorer in status with respect to the social determinants of health, and higher rates of certain chronic diseases and co-morbidity.
