MSSU

About the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit

As a SUPPORT Unit, MSSU provides research services, expertise and connections to help researchers, people with lived and living experience, health care providers and decision-makers carry out patient-oriented research across the Maritime provinces.

The MSSU is one of 11 SUPPORT Units that form part of Canada’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), serving the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Our Approach

We support patient-oriented research in ways that are inclusive, accessible and grounded in lived and living experience. This includes:

  • Integrating sex and gender considerations into research design, analysis and interpretation
  • Applying an equity, diversity and inclusion lens to ensure research reflects diverse populations and experiences
  • Supporting accessible communications, tools and research processes
  • We help researchers and partners apply these approaches in practice through training, tools and collaboration

Where we work

MSSU is a distributed team that works within partner organizations across five locations in the Maritime provinces. This model allows us to stay closely connected to the health system and research community in each region.
