About the project

This research project looks at how paying patient partners in health research can affect equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Involving patients in research improves its quality, but issues like how and when they’re paid, tax concerns, and other barriers can make it harder for people from diverse backgrounds—such as those with disabilities, low income, or from Indigenous communities—to participate. This study will explore what helps or gets in the way of fair compensation and aims to offer practical solutions that make it easier and more equitable for all patients to be involved in research.
