At-Risk Gambling in Prince Edward Island

At-Risk Gambling in Prince Edward Island

Project Lead: Mary-Ann Standing, Director, Centre for Health and Community Research, University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI)
Year: 2021

Gambling is a common activity for many Canadians. One study found that the majority of Canadians participate in a gambling activity at least once a year. However, gambling can become a problem, if it interferes with work, school or daily activities, or harms relationships, mental or physical health or finances. Research suggests that approximately 2% of Canadians experience high-risk gambling.

The study examines behaviours related to in-person and online gambling in PEI. There is a particular focus on the characteristics and harms associated with problem gambling. The results of this study will be available in the summer of 2021. Findings will help to inform programs and policies aimed at reducing problem gambling. This work follows on previous studies performed in 2005 and 1999.
