Overview

Accessing Health Data in the Maritimes

This resource provides an overview of how researchers and research teams can access administrative health data in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. It outlines the role of provincial data centres, what to expect in the data access process, and where to find support. This page is intended to help users understand their options and identify next steps before pursuing a data request.
A detailed overview of each data centre in the Maritime provinces

Administrative health data in the Maritimes is accessed through provincial data centres: DataNB (New Brunswick), Health Data Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia), and the Secure Island Data Repository (Prince Edward Island). While MSSU does not operate these centres, we work closely with them and help fund staff who support data access and patient-oriented research across the region. Researchers can meet with a data navigator from any of the data centres to discuss:

  • Research questions
  • What data is available
  • Whether the project is feasible
  • Required forms and approvals
  • Privacy or consent considerations
