This research project explores how bisexual women are represented in academic studies about eating disorders. Although bisexual women face some of the most serious mental health challenges, they are often overlooked or grouped into broader categories such as “LGBTQ” in research. This can hide important differences in their experiences and needs when it comes to eating disorders.
To address this gap, our study will review published research on eating disorders among 2S/LGBTQ people. It will look at how bisexual women are included, whether their data is separated out or combined with other groups, and what that means for understanding their experiences with eating disorders and treatment.
We want to have more people on the research team with lived experiences relevant to the study topic. We’re looking for a patient partner to be involved in the research process and help to shape the approach and understand the results. The goal is produce knowledge that matters to patients – especially bisexual women – and to improve how the system responds to their needs.
Eligibility
- The patient partner should have personal experience with eating disorder and/or disordered eating.
- The patient partner should self-identify as bisexual or plurisexual.
- The patient partner should have an interest in contributing to health research and improving equity in healthcare systems.

The time commitment for this hybrid opportunity is approximately 2-4 hours per month over the course of the project. The project is ready to begin right away, and we are expecting the whole process to take approximately 4-6 months. We are flexible based on the partner’s availability and interest.
Compensation
A honorarium of $400 will be given in appreciation of the partner’s time and expertise.
