We recently looked at emergency department visits after breast reduction surgery. A conclusion from this work is that clear and concise post-operative instructions from surgeons, including post-operative care resources, are an area for potential improvement in patient care.
We are recruiting adult individuals who have had breast reduction surgery to:
1. Review the current post-op pamphlet provided by Nova Scotia Health and provide their opinion, perspectives, and experiences on post-operative instructions
2. Assist in co-development of patient resources for breast reduction patients in Nova Scotia Health.
Eligibility
Adult (>17 years) who has undergone breast reduction surgery in Nova Scotia within the last 10 years.
Time Commitment
It will involve one initial focus group to set goals, review current post-operative information and data from emergency department visits after breast reduction surgery. This initial meeting will be 2 hours long and patients will be expected to have reviewed the current post-operative care pamphlet and a brief data summary prior to the session (which will be sent to them ahead of time). The opportunity is virtual.
At least one follow up focus group to co-develop patient resources, if that is the goal of the patients. This will also be 2 hours.
Compensation
$25 honourarium per session attended
