Aging in Place in New Brunswick: Understanding the Impact of Current Policies on Older Adults and their Families

Location: New Brunswick
Role description: Research Team Member
Available positions: 2
Deadline to apply: September 13, 2024

Researchers are looking for two Patient/Public Partners to help write a grant application for a research project that will help understand the lived experience of older adults living in hospital while waiting for nursing home placement in New Brunswick. This is a virtual opportunity. The individuals will help plan the research project on the grant research proposal for this study. There is also a possibility of being involved in the research project should it receive funding. Compensation will be offered once the project is funded.

This study will utilize personalized interviews with older adults and their families to understand their specific needs, preferences, and experiences with current home support services. Employing photovoice research, participants will use cameras to capture images of their environments and situations, which will then be discussed in relation to guided research questions. This method promotes active engagement and allows participants to document their experiences in alignment with the study’s objectives.

The findings from this study will be shared with policymakers and healthcare stakeholders to advocate for changes that address health inequities and enhance support for older adults. By facilitating policy adjustments that promote dignity and autonomy in aging, this research aims to alleviate pressures on hospital resources and improve overall healthcare outcomes for New Brunswick’s aging population.
