Health Data Nova Scotia Data Access Committee

Location: Nova Scotia
Role description: Committee Member
Available positions: 1
Deadline to apply: February 14, 2025

We are looking for a Patient/Public Partner to join the Health Data Nova Scotia (HDNS) Data Access Committee (DAC). The purpose of this committee is to review requests to support data analysis for research or quality assessments using the administrative health databases held by HDNS of Dalhousie University. These databases contain de-identified records (where information has been removed that could personally identify someone) for most health care encounters within Nova Scotia (e.g., hospitalizations, physician visits, prescriptions, etc.) HDNS data requests are reviewed by the DAC for privacy, security, and confidentiality concerns.

As a Patient/Public Partner, you would work with researchers, policy makers, privacy officers, biostatisticians, and administrators. All meetings and tasks, e.g., pre-readings, sharing of project materials, will be virtual and require access to reliable internet. Initially the Patient/Public Partner will meet with the Patient Engagement Coordinator of the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit to review concepts of patient & public engagement, as well as with the Chair of the DAC to review the committee structure including the Terms of Reference and to clarify their role.

Eligibility

  • Live in Nova Scotia
  • Have access to reliable internet
  • Have an interest in health-related research
  • Are confident and interested in sharing perspective with others
  • Can attend regular meetings

Time commitment
The Data Access Committee meets virtually up to 12 times a year on the first Wednesday of each month. Occasionally ad hoc or email reviews are requested. The Patient/Public Partners will receive documents one week in advance of the monthly DAC meeting and are asked to review and have questions prepared for researchers at the meeting.

Appreciation
Compensation will be offered.
