MSSU Welcomes New Science Lead

The MSSU is pleased to welcome Dr. Mathieu Bélanger as the Science Lead for Capacity Development.

Dr. Mathieu Bélanger is the Director of Research for the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick and an Epidemiologist for the Vitalité Health Network. He is also a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Université de Sherbrooke and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the Université de Moncton. Dr. Bélanger assumes multiple roles which include developing health research capacity in New Brunswick, supporting health professionals involved in research, and teaching doctors and medical students.

As a researcher, Dr. Bélanger has secured over 4 million dollars as principal investigator for research projects, participated in obtaining approximately 50 million dollars in supplementary funding as a principle or co-investigator in major CIHR initiatives such as Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), and is co-investigator on research projects that have amounted to over 10 million dollars. He is the author of over 90 scientific articles, 12 reports and 2 book chapters.

“In this role, I’m looking forward to bringing my experience leading the training and mentoring components of Diabetes Action Canada, a national SPOR network, to contribute to the development of patient-oriented research capacity in the Maritimes,” said Dr. Bélanger.
